Types of Workers' Compensation Benefits

Depending on the circumstances of your injury or illness, there are different types of benefits available through workers’ compensation.

  • Wage loss benefits - These benefits are intended to compensate a percentage of lost wages because of someone’s inability to work. They can be paid for 500 weeks or for a lifetime depending on the injury.
  • Medical benefits - These benefits cover any reasonable, necessary medical care related to a work injury. They can be collected for as long as treatment is necessary to recover or manage a job injury.
  • Disfigurement and scarring benefits - Special consideration is given to scarring and disfigurement of the head, neck or face. These benefits are payable for a specific timeframe depending on the injury.
  • Specific loss benefits - If someone suffers an amputation or loses the use of a body part, specific amounts of compensation are available. Depending on the severity and location of the injury, the amount of time someone can collect this type of benefit differs.
  • Death benefits - If someone dies as the result of a job injury or illness, his or her loved ones may be eligible for compensation.
